But as we move away from the skinny goals of the mid-2000s and embrace different shapes and sizes, one group of campaigners has taken things a step too far. Fronted by plus-sized models and social media influencers, the fat acceptance movement aims to normalize obesity, letting everyone know that it’s fine to be fat.

There is a new campaign to embrace the idea of being fat.

aims to normalize obesity, letting everyone know that it’s fine to be fat(让肥胖正常化,让人觉得正常很好。)

      这才是 a new campaign,

1.Few would dispute that the term applies to the Unabomber, whose manifesto, published in 1995, scorns science and longs for return to a pre-technological utopia. But surely that does not mean environmentalists concerned about uncontrolled industrial growth are anti-science, as an essay in US News & World Report last May seemed to suggest.

判断:Environmentalists were blamed for anti-science in an essay. (Tor F )

      2. Science, in practice, depends far less on the experiments it prepares than on the preparedness of the minds of the men who watch the experiments.

Inquiring minds are more important than scientific experiments. (Tor F )

Inquiring minds= the preparedness of the minds of the men

      3. NBAC members were divided on whether to go further by calling for a federal law that would impose a complete ban on human cloning.

Some NBAC members hesitate to ban human cloning completely. (Tor F )

      4. There is the analogy /that likens the conduct of monetary policy to driving a car with a blackened windscreen, a cracked rear-view mirror and a faulty steering wheel.

Making monetary policies is comparable to driving a car.  (Tor F )

1)the conduct of monetary policy和Making monetary policies严格讲是有区别的。

      5. People are absorbed into “a culture of consumption”/ launched by the 19th-century department stores /that offered “vast arrays of goods in an elegant atmosphere.

The department stores of the 19th century owed its emergence to the culture of consumption (Tor F )

launched by the 19th-century department stores

“a culture of consumption” was launched by the 19th-century department stores

6.“It is really important to understand and try and tease out what is the human connection with fire today, ”Balch says.

Professor Balch points out that fire is something man should do away with.

      tease out:梳理

      do away with:抛弃

7.原文:But policymakers who refocus efforts on improving well-being rather than simply worrying about GDP figures could avoid the forecasted doom and may even see progress.

It is essential to consider factors beyond GDP
