考研

　　在考研英语的阅读文章中经常会出现有关原因的细节，并且人也很喜欢考查某事的原因，从而判定考生对因果关系的理解程度。所以对于这类题型要重点复习，它们的题干中除了有具体细节的定位信息外，还有明确的表示因果关系的词汇、短语或结构形式。文都考研老师就带领大家一起来认识一下这些词语和结构形式。

　　一、表示因果关系的名词

　　常用的表示因果关系的名词有reason, cause, factor, result, consequence等。这种形式出现的时候很好识别，没有太大难度，我们简单来看两个例句：

　　Robert's illness is the result of drinking heavily.肯生病的原因是酗酒。

　　Smoking is the biggest preventable cause of death and disease.吸烟是造成不必要疾病和死亡的最大原因。

　　二、表示因果关系的连接副词

　　链接副词在分句之间起连接作用，充当连接性状语。常用的表示因果关系的连接副词有therefore, hence, thus, accordingly和consequently等。来看例句：

　　Agriculture has developed rapidly, thus providing light industry with ample raw materials. 农业迅速发展，从而为轻工业提供了充足的原料。

　　We have a different background, a different history. Accordingly, we have the right to different futures.我们拥有不同的背景、不同的历史。因此，我们有权获得不一样的前途。

　　三、表示因果关系的介词短语

　　常用的表示因果关系的简单介词有from, at, through和with等。表示因果关系的介词短语有because of, due to, owing to, thanks to, as a result of, in consequence of, on account of等。

　　My parents always rejoice at my success.我的父母总是为我的成功而欣喜。

　　With a mind prepared by thorough school discipline, the American boy develops rapidly into the skilled workman.由于有了学校彻底训练过的头脑。

　　四、表示因果关系的特殊结构

　　还有一些特殊的短语结构同样能表达出因果关系，比如with the explanation that，be responsible for等。下面来看一道2011年的考研真题：

　　In recent weeks the No.2 executives at Avon and American Express quit with the explanation that they were looking for a CEO post.

　　题干：According to Paragraph 2, senior executives’ quitting may be spurred by______.

　　[A]their expectation of better financial status.

　　[B]their need to reflect on their private life.

　　[C]their strained relations with the boards.

　　[D]their pursuit of new career goals.

　　先读题干，确定定位的关键词senior executives’ quitting高层管理人员的辞职，spurred by“刺激，激励”，这种离职潮是受到什么东西的激励。题干告诉了我们结果，要求寻找原因，所以返回原文先定位结果出处。根据原因结构词with the explanation that确定答案出现在其后。四个选项中只有D选项和原文使用了上下义词的替换，即new career goals等同于CEO post。

　　总的来说，英语中表示因果关系的方式很多，除原因状语从句之外，名词、介词、连接副词等也都可以用来表示逻辑上的因果关系。希望2018考研学子全面把握。
